Coach driver charged over fatal M5 motorway collision

A coach driver has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving following a collision involving a single-decker bus and a lorry on the M5 motorway in the West Midlands.

Coach passenger Liaquat Ali, 35, from Smethwick near Birmingham, died at the scene of the incident on the southbound carriageway between junctions three and four, in the early hours of Saturday, March 24.

Lorry driver William Mapstone, 65, from Wells in Somerset, was taken to a hospital in Birmingham, where he later died.

West Midlands Police said a 50-year-old man from Great Barr has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 2.
