Former Bond girl Fiona Fullerton has risked falling out with neighbours after a tree at her Cheltenham home was cut down to size in preparation to be felled altogether.

Miss Fullerton won permission to chop down two large cypress trees as part of a major renovation at St John's Lodge, in Suffolk Road.

A group of residents voiced anger at the plans, saying the trees were part of the fabric of the community.

However, there was to be no reprieve as workers began sawing them down yesterday afternoon.

Miss Fullerton has promised to plant two Holm oaks in their place.

Sarah Knightly Brown, who has lived in Tivoli Road for the past 30 years, said: "I think it is a shame for the area, it will look very different without those trees. We will notice it more in winter because they were evergreens which came into their own at that time of year. I just hope they plant something else there in their place."

She moved in with husband Neil Shackell last year.
