The shock on Dan Ball's face as he tried to explain Bath City's opening week of the season summed up the feeling of incredulity at Twerton Park.
"I can't really get my head round what is going on," said a downbeat Ball after Tuesday night's 4-0 capitulation at home to Basingstoke in the Vanarama Conference South.
"We've been trying to work out what is happening – even on the pitch we were asking what was going on.
"I've been here two years and I hadn't lost 3-0 or 4-0 – now we've had two results like that on the spin. It's not very good, particularly if you are a defender.
"When we started we seemed bright, then they scored a scrappy goal and it all went to pot.
"All their goals were pretty much the same – I can't believe it to be honest.
"We're lucky there is another game on Saturday, although we did say that after Concord (the 3-0 opening day defeat) as well.
"We just have to pick ourselves up and go again. We're not going to get those two games back, we've just got to push on.
"Let's hope we've got it out of the way early – but we don't want to be ten games in like this. We need a result on Saturday, but we need a performance as well to get some confidence back."
