Bath’s frustration at their home semi-final loss to Leicester Tigers simmered over at what the club admits was a ‘lively’ training session on Monday.

Director of rugby Sir Ian McGeechan had his players back in on Monday following the one-point LV= Cup defeat to the Tigers at The Rec, despite the club’s next fixture not being until Saturday week.

Another training session was held on Tuesday, with the players having a breather for the rest of the week.

First-team coach Brad Davis said his side’s failure to do the basics right against Leicester had led to a vocal review session on Monday morning, with a degree of anger being aired.

“It was lively,” said Davis. “If you can’t do the basics right, then you won’t cross the finishing line.

“As well as it being a lively review session, it was lively on the training field as well.

“There is frustration and with that frustration comes a bit of anger.

“Anger at where we find ourselves in the Premiership, anger at Friday night, anger at how we let a chance of silverware go, and anger at the fact that individually, across the board, we didn’t play as well as we can do.”

Davis made it clear that he viewed the 17-16 loss to historic rivals Leicester as the squandering of a golden opportunity for the club.

“Everyone is disappointed with the outcome. We had a massive opportunity and we blew it,” he said.

“We are disappointed with our performances, both individually and collectively.

“We did a lot of good stuff, but we undid that work with some poor execution and unforced errors.

“In those areas of the game where we could have control we let ourselves down. We had Leicester on the ropes, but we let them off the hook.”
