Bath have the chance to make up for one of their poorer away showings when they face Aviva Premiership strugglers London Irish at the Recreation Ground tomorrow.
Bath suffered a 29-22 defeat when they travelled to the Madejski Stadium in September, with 17 points coming from their former player Olly Barkley, and forward Carl Fearns says they are desperate to make amends.
“We let ourselves down last time and we didn’t quite turn up,” said flanker Fearns.
“We let a few points go and we’ve got to make sure we get it right this week to carry through the momentum we’ve built up.
“There is a massive buzz at the moment and we’ve made great strides in attack.
“The positions we got ourselves in at the start of the season which we weren’t quite finishing, now we’ve got the confidence to take them.
“We’re going into this week confident but we are still hurting from our last result against them.”
Bath have props Davey Wilson and Paul James available to them from England and Wales Six Nations duty respectively but forwards coach Neal Hatley says scrum-half Michael Claassens is still not fit after a hand injury.
Simon Taylor and Ryan Caldwell are also not expected to feature.
Hatley said: “We just don’t want to push Michael because he will be a key player for us later on in the season.
“It’s one of those injuries that you know if you just push too hard now you can be knocked back another five or six weeks. We just don’t want to take that risk.”
Young Bath Rugby fans are in for a half-term treat this morning when their heroes stage an open training session at The Rec.
Entry is free for today’s event, which gets under way at 9.45am, and spectators will be able to see Gary Gold’s squad put through their paces as they prepare for the visit of London Irish tomorrow (2.15pm).
After the session – known as the captain’s run – the players and coaches will sign autographs for supporters alongside the front of the West Stand.
Highlights of previous games, including the recent 32-3 drubbing of Gloucester, will be shown on the big screen before the start of the session.
The clubhouse will be selling food and drink and replica shirts are on sale at a discounted price from the mobile shop.
