A GAY-friendly website encouraging sex and nudity in public places around the Bridgwater and Burnham areas has angered local councillors, who want it and similar ones banned.

One website, www.cruising gays.com, highlights locations including Bridgwater Bus Station toilets, North Petherton toilets, Berrow beach, the Highbridge car park, Brent Knoll Village Hall and Sedgemoor Services' toilets as hot spots for gay men to meet.

The website describes Berrow beach as "an unofficial nude beach", "on quiet days when there are no clothed bathers about", while the crowd is "virtually all gay men".

It describes Brent Knoll Village Hall as having a "small toilet block big enough for a bit of group fun."

It is unclear who posts the reviews.

Berrow parish councillor Carol Dyer, who again spoke out against nude sunbathing on Berrow beach in June, said: "I have seen several of these sites - they must be stopped.

"Nude sunbathers have visited the dunes for years. These websites do not help the situation they increase it."

She hopes local councils will meet with police to discuss the problem.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: "We are here to help and any such lewd behaviour will not be tolerated and we will do what we can to stop it."

The Bridgwater and Burnham Times contacted the website but received no reply.
