A man has been remanded in custody charged with arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a house in Wiltshire.

John Marshall, a 57-year-old from Whitley, near Melksham, appeared before magistrates in Swindon yesterday in connection with a blaze at a property in Eden Grove in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Firefighters put out the blaze, and no one was injured, but two homes were damaged in the fire.

In a separate incident, firefighters were yesterday investigating the cause of a fire which gutted much of a pub in Chippenham.

Crews from across Wiltshire spent much of the early hours of yesterday morning tackling a blaze at the Sir Audley Arms pub.
