Anyone with information should call police on 101

A trio of robbers armed with crowbars held up staff at Cheddar Football Club after the annual firework display.

The masked men interrupted staff cashing up at Bowden's Park around 2am this morning after a successful night and ordered them to hand over thousands of pounds. No-one was hurt in the robbery.

Today's match against Bitton FC has been called off while police investigate the crime scene.

An appeal has been launched for anyone who has information about the crime to step forward and help enquiries. Contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

This is the second time this year Cheddar FC's premises has been targeted by violent criminals. The clubhouse and Fat Fox Cafe was broken into on New Year's Day and cash stolen from a gambling machine.

See Thursday's Cheddar Valley Gazette for full details.
