PLANS that are "desperately needed" to extend the car park at the doctor's surgery in Langport have been approved.
South Somerset District Council have given permission for hedgerows to be moved and 15 car parking spaces created at North Street Surgery.
A design and access statement said people are forced to park dangerously.
It said: "It is known that car parking at the surgery is limited at times.
"This leads to double parking, parking in restricted areas and also on the pavement, causing further issues with disabled, elderly and unwell users of the surgery.
"To provide a safer environment for the community and ease congestion, additional car parking spaces are desperately needed."
The decision notice from the district council said the alterations "are considered to provide a significant community benefit, which outweighs the limited harm to the setting of the listed building."
