Twenty years ago this spring the very first women clergy in the Church of England were ordained. From March 12 in Bristol through to the end of 1994, more than 1,300 women became priests. Many had been serving in other roles for decades. the Diocese of Gloucester is celebrating 20 years with women priests at a special service on Saturday in Gloucester Cathedral. Hundreds of people are expected to attend the service at 4pm, to celebrate the clergy's work.
