Alleged benefit fraud case adjourned

A STRATTON-on-the-Fosse man accused of two allegations of benefit fraud has had his case adjourned until February for a legal argument to take place.

Robert David Williams, aged 62, of Horne Close, is charged with two counts of making a false statement to Mendip District Council that he resided at an address in Stratton-on-the-Fosse with a view to obtaining benefit payments.

The offences are alleged to have occurred at Pilton on March 6, 2007 and October 17, 2007.

The defendant pleaded not guilty at a previous appearance before Somerset Magistrates and was told he will have to stand trial before the court at Yeovil.

When the matter was heard for a second time the Bench agreed to adjourn the case until February 10 for a legal argument to take place and for a trial date to be fixed following an application by the defence.
