Pubs and clubs in a seaside town are being asked to stop the sale of alcohol at 5am to stop the crossover between night-time revellers leaving pubs and clubs and families wanting to enjoy the seafront in the early morning.

Seven licensed premises in Weymouth have already signed up to the pilot early morning closure scheme which hopes to reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents as well as the impact on the daytime and tourist activities.

The pilot scheme will operate from January 2014 for an initial six months.
